Grass Autotests

Rugby Motor Club organise a series of Evening Autotests . These are held on selected Wednesdays over the summer months.

The aim of Autotests are to negotiate a memorised a low-speed course as quickly as possible without hitting any markers. It is all about car control.

Drivers compete on smooth, un-damaging, grass “tests” marked out by traffic cones. Usually two attempts at six tests are made on each test with the quickest time counting. The tests are fairly simple with approximately half the test layouts being forward only. Time penalties are incurred for hitting cones, failing to stop across a line or taking the wrong route. The driver with the fastest time of the day (FTD) is the winner.

The MMS Evening Autotests are split into two events:

The Production Car Autotest (PCA) is for everyday standard production cars and requires driver and passenger. This event is ideal for beginners or Junior entrants where the passenger can act as a navigator and guide the driver around the test. Junior entrants must be between 14 and 18 years of age. The passenger of a junior entrant must hold a valid RTA licence.

The Autotest event is a driver only event, passengers are not allowed. The driver must memorise the correct route around the tests.

Both events will count towards the MMS Autotest championship and MMS Junior Autotest championship.

All entrants, including passengers, must be a member of one of the invited motor clubs and hold a free Motorsport UK Clubman competition licence. Full details can be found in the Supplementary Regulations linked above.
